At the end of the Edo period (mid-19th century) a collection of Ukiyoe woodblock-printed pictures depicting the typical sights of Osaka entitled "Naniwa Hyakkei" ("A Hundred Views of Naniwa") was published by three Ukiyoe masters. It achieved great popularity.
Now, at the beginning of the 21st century, the Osaka City Foundation for Urban Technology has publicly collected photographs showing the attractions of modern Osaka on the theme of "100 Views of Osaka." Three specialists in different fields formed a panel to select 100 winning photographs from among those@collected.
