Based on the thought that the renovation of the city in the future should be realized with the citizens' support and public/private partnership, the Society for the Study of Regeneration of Osaka City was established in January 1998. Comprising 10 private companies, consultants, Urban Renaissance Agency scholars and Osaka City, the society is seeking ways to regenerate Osaka City into an attractive city.
The society also has working groups conducting social experiments such as the Modern Osaka Stamp Rally, a hands-on experience of the charms of modern architecture. Currently, the working groups are focusing on city planning studies and research for the Nakanoshima-Nishi and Fukushima districts. The society also holds general meetings, which include experts from academia and the private sector, to discuss what Osaka should look like in the future and study ways to make that vision a reality.
