The City of Osaka opened its official website in FY1997 and set up websites for all city bureaus and ward offices in FY2001. Moreover, the official website has been accessible by Internet mobile phones since December 2002.
The websites showcase information on various topics, including city concepts and strategies, culture and history, administrative works, notices of events and disaster information. Commissioned by Osaka City and its agencies, we update data on their web pages. What is more, we are operating and monitoring the web server and other equipment at all times.
With an easy-to-understand layout based on our own accessibility guidelines, multi-lingual web pages (Japanese, English, French, Chinese and Korean), and children-oriented content, the Osaka City Website is designed to be used by everybody. The Website won the Public Sector Award in the Web Site Accessibility Contest in FY2002 (sponsored by the Web Accessibility Testing Office under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications).
Also, we revised our existing guidelines and prepared new ones, following the formulation in June 2004 of a Web contents accessibility standard (JIS X 8341-3; Guidelines for older persons and persons with disabilities--Information and communications equipment, software and services --Part 3: Web Content).
