Study and Research on GIS

Geographic Information System (GIS) can be applied in both government works (e.g. city planning, public facilities management, citizens・services, disaster prevention planning, etc.) and private sector activities (e.g. customer management, sales planning, office site selection, etc.). We are studying ways of digitizing the different format maps owned by Osaka City and other agencies into common digital data maps, in consort with private companies.

Since FY2002, furthermore, we have been preparing base maps of all the city wards. These maps contain quality-of-life information and we have been using them to develop an online vector mapping system. These efforts bore fruit in February 2005, when we posted ward information maps on the website of each ward office.
